Galatians 5:4 – 5:4 – You who are trying to be justified by the law are alienated from Christ; you have fallen from grace.

  • Salvation is by Grace alone
    • God’s wrath was satisfied in the cross

Eph. 2:8, 9 – For you are saved by grace through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God’s gift — not from works, so that no one can boast.

  • They chose B.C. instead of A.D.

Gal. 3:19-26 – Why then was the law given? It was added because of transgressions until the Seed to whom the promise was made would come. The law was put into effect through angels by means of a mediator. Now a mediator is not for just one person, but God is one. Is the law therefore contrary to God’s promises? Absolutely not! For if a law had been given that was able to give life, then righteousness would certainly be by the law. But the Scripture has imprisoned everything under sin’s power,, so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe. Before this faith came, we were confined under the law, imprisoned until the coming faith was revealed. The law, then, was our guardian until Christ, so that we could be justified by faith. But since that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian, for you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.

  •  A Different Gospel is No Gospel
    • Adding to God’s gift perverts the Gospel
    • Even if the message is delivered by what appears to be a divine messenger (an angel from heaven)
  • Gospel or Curse?
    • The Gospel of Christ is simple. Adding to it is a curse
    • The “one we preached” is the “one you received”
      • It is a handing down – like an heirloom
    • Perverting the Gospel will bring a curse to the one who adds to it
      • It was God’s setting something apart specifically for destruction

Joshua 6:17, 18 – But the city and everything in it are set apart to the Lord for destruction. Only Rahab the prostitute and everyone with her in the house will live, because she hid the men we sent. But keep yourselves from the things set apart, or you will be set apart for destruction. If you take any of those things, you will set apart the camp of Israel for destruction and bring disaster on it.

  • What is Legalism?
    • Allowing the Law to replace God’s grace
      • The Law is good – it is not evil or a curse

The curse comes when the Law replaces God’s grace and what Jesus did and what the Holy Spirit does.
