  • Throughout Chapter 9 Job has acknowledged God’s omnipotence and authority, but through his suffering, Job has reached several theories:
    • He cannot argue with God
    • He cannot bargain with God
    • He cannot direct God
    • He cannot control God
    • He cannot rush God
    • He cannot fool God
    • He cannot out-muscle God
      • “If I wash myself with snow and cleanse my hands with lye, then you dip me in a pot of mud and my own clothes despise me” – Job 9:30, 31
  • Job’s Resolution about God – Vs. 32-35
    • He is Not like a man
      • A self-explanatory comment
      • We cannot comprehend God’s greatness
      • This statement will change when Jesus comes
        • The isolation gap was bridged by Jesus
    • Take to Court
      • In life, there are two sides to every story. With God, there is only one side – HIS side!
      • God’s sovereignty has made Job feel helpless
    • No one to Judge
      • No one to look for loop holes
      • Job hasn’t yet considered the real source of his troubles
      • “Judge between” – a mediator
        • 1 Tim. 2:5
          • This follows the logic of a courtroom
    • Let Him take His Rod away
      • Describes punishment – corporal punishment
      • Like His friends, Job is convinced that God has judged him for some wrongdoing – but he can’t figure out what it is!
